Density Current Baffle

DENSITY CURRENT BAFFLES (DCB) are designed to ensure currents are minimized within a clarifying system.

The DCB eliminates the effect created by density currents flowing up the clarifier wall, which prevents suspended solids from settling properly and allows the solids to flow directly into the effluent trough.

The density current baffle is mounted on the wall of the tank below the effluent launder and scum baffle, sloping downward at an angle and extending toward the center of the tank beyond the scum baffle. The flow is redirected inward and down toward the center of the tank which allows the settling of more solids.

All DCBs are produced by the lay up process; with all surfaces gel-coated and integrally molded steel supports.

Note: Also referred to as Effluent Launder Baffle, Submerged Flow Deflection Baffle, Upflow Baffle, and Stamford Baffle®.

We have also developed the next generation Corrugated-Density Current Baffle (C-DCB). The patented C-DCB design is made of FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) which is stronger and lighter weight without the use of any molded-in steel for strength.

Advanced density baffle design features a unique corrugated shape that significantly reduces deflection of deposits from coming back up into the center of the clarifier. Comprised of FRP material it’s also easier to install than the previous designs due to the part being lighter in weight and requiring fewer fasteners then the previous designs.
