Density Current Baffles
Also referred to as Effluent Launder Baffle, Submerged Flow Deflection Baffle, Upflow Baffle, and Stamford Baffle®.
This baffle eliminates the effect created by density currents flowing up the clarifier wall, which prevents suspended solids from settling properly and allows the solids to flow directly into the effluent trough. The density current baffle is mounted on the wall of the tank below the effluent launder and scum baffle, sloping downward at an angle and extending toward the center of the tank beyond the scum baffle. The flow is redirected inward and down toward the center of the tank which allows the settling of more solids.
